Bad news for Takayama

A day after the news broke that ALA Promotions signed Katsunari Takayama (23-4-0, 11 KOs), tragedy struck as he injured his wrist while jogging in his preparation for his match against Jayson Rotoni (10-5-1, 6 KOs) in the card billed Best of Boxing 1.

Reports from philboxing.com reported that Takayama injured his wrist when he fell while trying to avoid an incoming vehicle. I’ve been to Cebu a couple of times and I have to say that their drivers are way more laid back than those in Manila so I think the driver wasn’t trying to be an ass or anything, I’m pretty sure the driver didn’t have ulterior motives. Maybe Takayama got confused about the traffic because he’s so used to having right-hand drive vehicles in Japan.

Hopefully, Takayama gets to strut his stuff on Philippine soil soon. This is a strong move by ALA Promotions and Philippine boxing as this is the first time, as far as I know, that a foreign fighter is signed under a Filipino promotion. Filipino fighters are the ones being pirated most of the time such as Randy Suico representing Joe Koizumi’s Teiken Gym.

The fight between Larry Canillas (12-2-0, 10 KOs) and Dexter Mendoza (11-7-2, 4 KOs) will now be the main event. Canillas was the third Filipino who won in Dubai together with Boomboom Bautista and AJ Banal. Canillas defeated Fred Sayuni of Tanzania via 6th round knockout. This will is nothing more than a padder for Canillas’s record, Mendoza does not have a snowball’s chance in hell in winning this match specially because he has lost his last four fights, all by knockout.
